Curio Bay and Petrified forest, penguin spotting

Definitely a recommended place to go. Other than the fossil rocks you see (it should be the only place to see such things in Kiwiland unless you love museum), you can get lucky to spot a Hoiho! That's a yellow-eyed penguin and unlike other places where you either pay to see or see from a far away hole, you get to get all close up to them.

Make sure you stay 10m away cos they get frightened easily and will die if you stress them too much. Just like birds eh? They ARE birds!

You may get even lucky and see a rainbow together with the penguins!
