17th July @ cockle harvester

What an activity! As we passed by Te Rauone beach towards Royal Albatross Center which is situated right at the tip of the Otago Peninsula, we were caught by the signage below. It says, "50 cockles per gatherer per day", by ministry of fisheries. On impulse, I told her we will harvest "hum" and eat tonight!

It was a beautiful walk with the sun shooting its rays towards the water, making it crystal-like reflection. What's more fascinating is the amount of cockle shells on the beach! It took us quite a while to harvest 10 altogether. No seal sightings again, but it was a rare experience in a rare occasion that we found 10 cockles.

As we open them, it turned out all 10 have "hum" instead of sand, cos we were thinking we might not be that lucky to get all 10 hums. They were all white hums, with beautiful purple inner shells.

What's for dinner? Korean instant noodle with fresh hum!
